Simon Roberts - Video Designer

504/GWT

I specialize in video design and programming for live performances, immersive installations, and broadcast productions. With a background in Notch VFX, Unreal Engine, video engineering, camera direction, and projection mapping, I bring a blend of technical expertise and creative vision to every project. My focus is on creating seamless, impactful visuals that align with the narrative and elevate the overall experience.

I am passionate about balancing shot footage and real-world captures with CG to craft visuals that feel both grounded and imaginative. By working with both pre-rendered and real-time pipelines, I push creative boundaries to explore the impossible while ensuring the work connects deeply with audiences and enhances the storytelling process.

Studies in Signal Alchemy

An exploration of analog video synthesis, merging retro techniques with modern digital processes. Incorporates generated shapes, portraits, filmed footage, and sound-modulated forms to craft textured, evocative visuals. Utilizing CRT monitors, Beta decks, and glitch mixers, combined with materials overlaying the CRT screens, these works manipulate pixel perception through the lens of a camera. The projects blend analog imperfection with generative effects, creating immersive visuals that challenge and redefine the interaction between medium, material, and method.
